NEW POST! Read about my lecture & release in the Sitting Room and the Young Professional in the Drawing Room!
Welcome to Heritage Salon; the place where the African-American museum culture is explored! Since I discovered this love, studied the museum field and through my work experience, I noticed there were not many African-Americans that visited museums. There were one or two African-American students in my classes or had any interest in the field as a career choice. Since finishing my studies, I have a burning question in my mind-why don’t African-Americans visit museums as often as other cultures? Is there a deep rooted historical fact that has been passed down from generations that limits the interest of African-Americans? Do they have access or knowledge of the museums in their area? Are they promoted in the African-American communities?
I would like to seek answers to these types of questions through my own research and interviews with museum professionals. I hope to increase exposure to the many museums, historic homes and cultural institutions that gives African-Americans a glimpse into their heritage. Through Heritage Salon, I hope to increase the audience participation to museums and cultural institutions in your town. I have a personal goal of diversifying the museum field and what a large goal! I am certain that with my drive, passion and persistence it will come to past.
I encourage you to visit the Veranda to find out more about me and the blog, stop by the sitting room to read about my opinion on different topics and news in the industry, visit the Parlour to read about my different experiences at museums, and to visit the Drawing Room to read about the different museum professionals in the field.
Walk with me through Heritage Salon!
